Dominant emotion: fear

Today's news is dominated by violence, coercion, and collapse—a Syrian regime's calculated kidnapping of a journalist, Iranian attacks destroying US military infrastructure, and a Gaza building collapsing on families with children. While there are lighter items (the Snapchat announcement, Wiles' health recovery), the weight of the day settles on systematic brutality and loss of life. The reaching hand symbolizes both victimhood and the struggle to survive under rubble both literal and metaphorical.
